Series Opens with Shutout Against Nevada

4/26/2019 6:43:00 PM | Softball

Boise State (31-9, 9-7 MW) hit four home runs against Nevada (24-20, 8-8 MW) while Kelsey Broadus threw a complete game shutout

BOISE, Idaho – A well-rounded effort in the circle and at the plate paced the way for a 7-0, shutout win for the Boise State softball team in the opener against Nevada, Friday at Dona Larsen Park. Kelsey Broadus allowed only seven batters on base in 7.0 innings of shutout work in the circle, as the Broncos got timely hitting for the seven-run victory.

The left-hander was effective from start to finish, with 61 of her 93 pitches being strikes, while striking out four in her sixth complete game of the year. In total, the Bronco defense faced only 27 batters

"Getting the shutout from Kelsey today was huge," head coach Maggie Livreri said. "She looked as dominant as ever in the circle today and keyed our defense into the game. I thought our hitters showed a lot of discipline at the plate to manufacture some runs."

Boise State (31-9, 9-7 MW) sent four home runs over the outfield fence – the eighth time this season they have hit three-or-more home runs in a game. Rebekah Cervantes and Bradie Fillmore sent the ball into center field and left field, respectively, in the first inning, while Ashlyn Adams and Jessica McKay hit solo shots to right field in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Jessica McKay batted in a team-high three runs on the day, finishing the game 2-for-4 at the plate. Her double up the right side brought in a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to put Boise State up 7-0 over the Wolf Pack (24-20, 8-8 MW).

Despite going 1-for-4 in the game, Kora Wade continued her on-base streak to 32-consecutive games – the third-longest streak in program history.

The Broncos will look to clinch the series with a win on Saturday over Nevada. First pitch from Dona Larsen Park is set for 4 p.m. MT.
