Women enter Saturday in seventh, men in a tie for sixth in the team race; 15 Broncos advance to finals\

CLOVIS, Calif. – The Boise State track and field teams had 15 athletes advance to tomorrow's finals of the 2019 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships, while three Broncos combined to score 10 points in the team race.

Kendra Noneman posted the best finish of the day by taking fourth in the women's hammer throw. The junior put herself in contention with a toss of 190'-1" (57.94m) on her second attempt to advance to the finals in the event. The mark would be her best on the day as she held on to finish fourth and score five team points.

In the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Maxine Paholek contributed four team points with a fifth-place effort. The freshman ran a time of 10:10.25, while Kyra Lopez would just miss scoring with a ninth-place finish (10:26.24). On the men's side, Israel Anaya-Carmona would score a point in his debut in the event, running 9:18.10.

Despite finishing just outside of the scorers, pole vaulter Amber Mallet had a career day for the Blue and Orange. Down to her final attempt at 12'-5.25" (3.79m), she was able to clear the bar and remain in contention in the event. That mark is a career best for Mallet, and was only a quarter of an inch shy of cracking the top five on the school record book.

David Pierce was able to advance to the finals of both the 100m and the 200m. The freshman who joined the program in January will be seeded third in both events on Saturday after finishing second in his heat of the 100m, and winning his heat of the 200m. He will be joined by teammate Bryce Kirby – the two-time defending Mountain West champion – in the 100m after Kirby posted the fastest qualifying time of 10.49.

Kirby was the fastest non-qualifier in the 200m.

The Broncos will have plenty of opportunity to score points in the men's 400m hurdles, after both Ryan Cavinta and Jose Rubio advanced cleanly in the event. Cavinta won his heat in 53.49. Rubio was second in the second preliminary heat, but his time of 52.98 was the second-fastest on the day.

In the women's 100m hurdles, Dafni Georgiou exceeded her seeding in the event by placing sixth in the preliminary rounds in a time of 14.08 to advance to tomorrow's final.

Both Kristie Schoffield (2:09.55) and Kelly Moodry (2:09.56) did enough to advance to the final of the women's 800m. Schoffield won her heat to automatically advance, while Moodry ran a lifetime best as the seventh qualifier. On the men's side, Jacob Grinwis used a strong final 200 meters to finish second in his heat, and advance with the fourth-fastest qualifying mark of 1:51.87.

Due to there not being enough entrants in both the men's and women's 1,500-meter races, Allie Ostrander, Alexis Fuller, Addison Dehaven, Jeff Lautenslager, Henry Mong and Andrew Rafla automatically advanced to Saturday's action.

Boise State's women's team is currently seventh in the team race with 22 points, while the men are tied for sixth with 10 points. The conference championships will conclude tomorrow afternoon. Action in the field will begin at 3 p.m. MT, with running events starting at 6 p.m. MT.
