Fuller, Kirby, Ostrander defend titles from 2018, Armstrong wins 5,000-meter as both the men and women place fifth
In the team competition, the men took fifth with 81 points — a 33-point improvement from the 2018 season. The women finished fifth with 75 points.
"It's always great when you have multiple athletes win titles," head coach Corey Ihmels said. "It was a great week for Alexis, Allie and Bryce to defend their titles, and for Elijah to come back this season and win the 5k. Outside of the individual success, it was great to see us perform well as a team. We got points from every event group, and it was great for us to have a well-rounded week."
Fuller opened the day by leading a 1-2 finish with Ostrander in the women's 1,500-meter for the second-straight season. The senior took the lead entering the bell lap, and split a 62.67 on her last lap to win in 4:21.11. Ostrander was right behind her teammate in 4:21.47.WATCH | The duo of Alexis Fuller and Allie Ostrander continue to dominate the #MWOTF 1,500-meter event! Ostrander would defend her title in the 5,000-meter, running a West Region qualifier of 15:45.66 in the process. The redshirt junior placed herself in the lead pack from the gun, and took the lead with a mile to go. She led New Mexico's Ednah Kurgat before starting her kick coming off the first curve of the bell lap to win going away.
In the men's 100m, Kirby made history by completing a three-peat of the event. He is the first athlete in program history to win three-straight conference titles in the event, and became the first Mountain West male to claim back-to-back-to-back titles since Charles Silmon of TCU accomplished the feat between 2010-12.Ostrander takes it! His time of 10.36 also moves Kirby to third on the Boise State performance list. He was joined by teammate David Pierce, who finished third in a career best of 10.53. Pierce would come back to take third in the 200m (21.40) as well.
Using a late kick that was reminiscent of the kick he used to win the outdoor 10,000-meter title as a freshman, Armstrong scored 10 points for the Broncos by winning the 5,000-meter. He moved up the field before taking the lead in the last 75 meters to win in 14:03.76. He was joined as a scorer by Addison Dehaven, who finished sixth.ÂFlex on 'em, Bryce!! 💪💪

In the field, Boise State got points from Justin Stattner and Taj Dorsett. Stattner took fifth in the pole vault by clearing 15'-7.25" (4.76m). Entering her final attempt in the triple jump with a pair of fouls, Dorsett was able to jump 39'-2.5" (11.95m) to move on to the finals, where she placed sixth.
Dafni Georgiou again exceeded her seeding in the 100m hurdles, taking fifth in 13.73. Entering the weekend seeded seventh in the event, she was able to reach the final and bring home four points for Boise State. In the long hurdles, Ryan Cavinta (52.71) and Jose Rubio (52.82) finished 3-4 on the men's side.Â
Strong 4x400 relays from both the men and the women solidified the fifth-place showings for the Broncos. The men took seventh (3:18.83), and were able to finish ahead of Wyoming thanks to a strong anchor leg from Cavinta.Â
On the women's side, the team of Moodry, Fuller, Schoffield and MaLeigha Menegatti won the first heat in 3:45.46 — one of the top marks in school history — and finished sixth overall. By defeating Utah State in the 4x400, the women were able to hold onto fifth in the team standings.Â
The Broncos will await word on who will receive bids to the NCAA West Preliminary Round — the qualifying round for the national championships — this upcoming week. The west regional will be held in Sacramento, Calif., May 23-25.
