STOCKTON, Calif. - Boise State men's tennis rolled to a win at Pacific Saturday defeating the Tigers 6-1 in Stockton, Calif. Boise State took the doubles point 2-0, then claimed the first three singles matches with wins by Mark Papadopoulus, Simon Arca Costas and Wyatt DeMulling to clinch the victory.Â
"We didn't play our best tennis today, but I feel good about winning by competing and grinding when things aren't feeling perfect," said head coach Kristian Widen. "Our Broncos beat a solid home team and we are looking forward to a tough USF team tomorrow, in San Francisco. Working through this one gives us positive momentum for tomorrow's match. It will be a great test of character on the road."
The win over Pacific was the front end of a two-match road trip to northern California this weekend as the Broncos take their now 6-2 overall record to San Francisco Sunday where they will face the USF Dons. Â
Michael Bott and Papadopoulos easily dispatched Pacific's No. 2 doubles pair Philip Hjorth and Kobayashi by a 6-1 score. The Bronco tandem is now 5-3 overall.
Kyryll Kryvchun and Kemal Karagozoglu followed with a 6-3 victory on court three over UOP's John Horoz Gardner and Nathan Hampton.Â
Boise State wasted little time in extending its lead once singles began. Papadopoulos was the first to record a win when he beat Hampton in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. He is now 7-1 overall and winner of seven straight.
Arca Costas made it 3-0 Boise State when he put away Akram El Sallaly 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. He is now 14-7 on the year.
DeMulling clinched the team victory with a second set tiebreaker win 6-2, 7-6(3) over the Tigers' Coby McCaig on court four. The senior is now 14-7 in singles on the year.
With the win secure, the Broncos closed out the match taking two of the final three singles contests. Bott won on court six 7-4, 7-6(5) and Kryvchun won his 21st match of the year in a three-set battle defeating Hjorth 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles.Â
