The Broncos cruised on opening day at Salem, defeating Portland and Corban by 5-0 scores.

SALEM, Ore. - Boise State's beach volleyball team was dominating on the opening day of the Northwest Invitational at Salem, Ore., rolling to two 5-0 sweeps over the Portland Pilots and their host the Corban Warriors. In all, the Broncos dropped only two sets on the day, including four exhibition matches, as they won a combined 26.

The sweep improved Boise State to 5-6 overall with two more contests on the slate Saturday as they wrap up the tournament versus Corban, in a rematch, and Oregon.

"The girls played really well today against Portland and Corban," said Boise State Head Coach Allison Voigt. "I am excited to see how our girls are progressing and getting better every day. Tomorrow will be another great day of beach volleyball matches."

The day began with the Broncos stampeding past the Pilots 5-0, in addition, they won two exhibition contests to go 7-0 overall. Boise State won four of the five official matches in straight sets with the No. 2 pair of Rori Chartier and Sierra Land having to rally from a set down to defeat Noe Helm and Charity Bradley 19-21, 21-9, 15-11.

The story was the same for the second match against Corban as Boise State dealt them a 5-0 defeat while dropping only one set.

The Broncos' top-pair of Erin Martin and Yasmin Tan battled back after dropping the opening set by two points to win the contest in three 19-21, 21-19, 15-4. The other four matches plus two exhibition contests were settled in straight sets.
