BOISE, Idaho - Boise State men's tennis closed a five-match homestand with an easy 6-1 win over LMU on Sunday at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center in Boise. Simon Arca Costas' 67th career singles win clinched the team victory for the Blue and Orange over the Lions. The Broncos snapped a five-match streak of 4-3 victories with the six-point win over LMU to move to 10-5 overall.
"We beat a very good team, LMU is a is a very talented team and extremely well-coached, and a good group," said Boise State Head Coach Beck Roghaar. "I think this weekend was really great for us. But today to come out with a 6-1 win, I think says a lot about where we're at and we're excited about the improvement that we can make. This was a good confidence builder for us, just because we know we can beat a good team. I was very proud of our efforts today. We stood up in some tough moments and bounced back in some moments that we needed to and I think that was really important to get us through today."
Minakata was happy with his play today and winning his sixth-consecutive match, "I think overall I played well, I don't really think about winning streaks. I just go out there and play every point hard. We (with doubles partner Michael Bott) were kind of nervous for a few games when we were down. But we're always connected and just trying to have fun and focus on every point. As a team, I think every win counts for us and we're all out there fighting hard."
Boise State won the team doubles point 2-0 with victories on courts three and one, respectively. Michael Bott and Ryo Minakata claimed the first win at No. 3 doubles by a 6-4 score. Arca Costas and Cadem Moortgat were close behind taking No. 1 doubles 7-5 to clinch the point.
LMU tied the team score up at 1-1 with a victory at No. 1 singles, but that was all that the Lions would get as the Broncos swept the final five contests.
James Van Herzeele gave Boise State the lead for good when he beat LMU's Toky Ranaivo in two sets 6-4, 6-3 to record his eighth win of the season.
Jan Lucca Marquardt extended the Broncos advantage to 3-1 with a hard fought straight-set victory 7-6(5), 6-4 at No. 3 singles, his 12th win of the year.
Acra Costas then clinched the team victory with a 7-6(5), 6-3 win on court two over Jose Dominguez. The win was his 14th of the year, a team high.
The match concluded with two wins on courts four and five where Moortgat defeated Emin Torlic 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, while Minakata won his sixth in a row when he beat Austin Di Giulio 6-4, 7-6 (1).
