Broncos notch sixth-straight win on the road at EWU

Caden Moortgat clinches the win for Boise State.
CHENEY, Wash. - Caden Moortgat's singles victory on court three clinched the team victory for the Broncos as Boise State defeated Eastern Washington 5-2 Friday afternoon in Cheney, Wash. Moortgat rallied from one set down against EWU's Steven Paz to win the contest by claiming the second set 7-5 before rolling to a 6-2 win in the third.
Boise State opened the day by winning the doubles point 2-0 over the Eagles. Simon Arca Costas and Moortgat won at No. 1 doubles by a 6-1 score, while Michael Bott and Ryo Minakata clinched the point with a 6-4 win at the third position.
Up one heading into singles, Boise State extended its lead to 2-0 when Arca Costas cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, claiming his 68th career victory and 15th of the season, both team highs.
After EWU closed the gap to 2-1, the Broncos regained their two-point advantage, at 3-1, following Minakata's 6-1, 6-2 straight-set victory on court five to earn his 10th singles win of the year.
The Eagles cut into the lead one more time, pulling to within 3-2, which set up Moortgat's team clinching victory on court three. Like Minakata, it was Moortgat's 10th singles win of the season.
The match concluded when James Van Herzeele defeated Brady Thomas in two sets, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 6 singles.
Boise State will be back in action Sunday afternoon when the Broncos face the Gonzaga Bulldogs in Spokane, Wash.
