San Diego State Rallies Past the Broncos

Boise State fell 4-3 to the San Diego State Aztecs, who rallied from 2-1 down for the win.
BOISE, Idaho - Boise State's men's tennis team came up short Thursday afternoon as the San Diego State Aztecs rallied from 2-1 down to defeat the Broncos 4-3 in Mountain West Conference action at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center.
Boise State won the team doubles point and recorded singles victories from James Van Herzeele and Ryo Minakata, but it was not enough to hold off the Aztecs. The Blue and Orange closed the regular season at 13-10 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Simon Arca Costas and Caden Moortgat gave Boise State the early lead in doubles play, taking the No. 1 position by a 6-4 score over SDSU's Victor Castro and Joe Tyler after rallying from 4-2 down. It was the 10th win of the season for the Boise State tandem.
Ryo Minakata and Jan Lucca Marquardt clinched the team point for the Broncos when they dispatched Roni Rikkonen and Johannes Seeman 6-4 on court two.
After the Aztecs tied the score at 1-1 to start singles, Van Herzeele put Boise State back in front at 2-1 with a straight-set victory, 6-2, 6-1, on court six over Jules Auffray. It was the 12th win of the season for the freshman from Thailand.
Minakata's win on court five tied the score at 3-3 after the Aztecs had moved into the lead with wins at the No. 3 and 1 positions. After dropping a set-one tiebreaker 7-5, he rallied to dominate the final two sets to claim his 15th win of the season 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-1.
The final match on court four decided it all. The contest between Boise State's Moortgat and San Diego State's Alexander Mandma saw the first two sets go to tiebreakers before the Aztec pulled out a 6-7(5), 7-6(5), 6-1 victory to clinch it for SDSU.
Next up for the Broncos is the Mountain West Conference Championship hosted by Air Force from April 29 through May 1.
