Boise State Rally Comes Up Short as Lobos Edge Broncos

Simon Arca Costas joined an elite club Friday becoming the seventh Bronco in history to reach the 100 career singles wins milestone.
BOISE, Idaho – Boise State men's tennis rallied from 2-0 down to tie the match at 3-3 against New Mexico Friday afternoon at the Appleton Tennis Center but came up short 4-3 in the end.Â
It was a battle for first place in the Mountain West Conference standings as the 61st-ranked Broncos moved to 18-5 overall and 3-1 in the league, while 73rd-ranked New Mexico improved to 12-5 and 3-0.

The Lobos opened the match taking the team doubles point 2-0 over the Broncos. They then stretched their lead to 2-0 with the first singles victory of the match.

Boise State rallied to tie the match score at 2-2 with singles victories by Simon Arca Costas, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 2 singles, and Idriss Haddouch, 6-4, 6-3, on court five.

After New Mexico retook the lead to go up 3-2, the Broncos' James Van Herzeele won on court four 6-4, 6-4, to pull the blue and orange even once again.

New Mexico's Nikolay Sysoev clinched the match with a tough 6-4, 7-5 win on court six.
