Broncos Record Second Shutout of the Season

9/10/2023 4:31:00 PM | Women's Soccer

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State soccer battled Oregon State to a 0-0 draw, earning their second shutout of the season Sunday afternoon.

The Blue and Orange (2-1-4) struck first when Kenzie MacMillan took a shot just inside the penalty box. Despite the Beavers (3-2-2) outshooting the Broncos 6-3 in the first half, Boise State forced two saves and kept the score tied at the break.

The Broncos entered the second period with plenty of energy, outshooting the Beavers 3-2 and earning four corners to Oregon State's two. Despite a scoring chance in the 89th minute by forward Carly Cross, the Beaver's goalkeeper made the save to maintain the draw.

Quotables

  • "Oregon State is a strong team that caused an awful lot of problems for us structurally and we had to really be sharp as coaches to help our players through it," said head coach Jim Thomas. "The coolest part is that we are still undefeated against Pac-12 opponents this season with our only loss on the year being to the number one team (BYU) in the country."
  • "It's going to be great getting to tease Liz (Ruiz, an assistant coach) for another week about her record in shutouts moving down a spot," said Thomas. "We're pumped for Genevieve (Crenshaw), she's an amazing person and player, and so is Liz so it's no surprise between the two of them we've gotten these results."
