Boise State Heads to Las Vegas for Inaugural MW Fall Qualifiers

Boise State men's tennis is heading to the inaugural Mountain West Fall Qualifiers. The four-man contingent will be playing for berths into the first ITA Conference Masters on November 7-10 and a chance to qualify for the NCAA Individual National Championships on November 19-24.

New for this season is the transition of the NCAA Individual National Championships (singles and doubles) from the spring to the fall. As a result, there are several ways for student-athletes to qualify for nationals, and the ITA Conference Masters is one of those ways.

Need to Know

  • Representing Boise State:  The Broncos contingent will feature transfers Carson Baker (Mississippi), a sophomore, and junior Taiyo Kurata (Idaho), in addition to freshmen Lukas Velik (Prague, Czechia) and Dylan Jaen (Hilton Head, S.C.).
  • The Format: This will be a typical fall tournament featuring one flight for singles and one for doubles. The singles and doubles champions will advance to November's ITA Conference Masters.
  • The Field: The field includes representatives from the seven MW schools that sponsor men's tennis: Air Force, Boise State, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State, UNLV and Utah State.
  • How to Follow: The MW Fall Qualifiers will feature live scoring only. For the link, check the men's tennis schedule on BroncoSports.com.
  • Last Week: Boise State sent a four-man contingent to the ITA Bedford Cup in the Mountains at the U.S. Air Force Academy, where the Broncos were highly successful. Baker and Adam Duda reached their respective singles flight's semifinal round. Baker and Duda also advanced to the doubles championship match, while Kurata and Jaen won the doubles consolation championship. In all, the Broncos went a combined 20-7.
  • Who's Back: The Broncos return four veterans from the 2024 Mountain West Championship team in seniors John Chin, Jett Middleton and James Van Herzeele, as well as junior Idriss Haddouch.
  • Who's New, The Transfers: Boise State added six newcomers for the 2024-25 campaign, including two transfers. The transfers are Carson Baker from the University of Mississippi, who is a sophomore, and Taiyo Kurata, who played the last two years for the University of Idaho and is a junior this year.
  • Who's New, The Freshmen: Four of the six newcomers to the roster are true freshmen. The four include a pair of Czechs, Adam Duda and Lukas Velik, from Prague, and two Americans, Dylan Jaen from Hilton Beach, South Carolina, and Michael Seversen from Coto de Caza, California.
  • Regular Season Championships: Boise State has won four regular season conference titles all-time. The Broncos' first year as a member of a conference that played a regular season round robin was 2009 when they were members of the Western Athletic Conference. They went on to win that first WAC title and have since followed with three in the MW (2012, 2014, and 2024).
  • Conference Tournament Championships: Since joining the conference for the 2012 campaign, the Broncos have won six MW tournament championships (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2023, 2024). Boise State has won 18 conference tournament titles overall in the program's history spanning four conferences: Big Sky (1974, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996), Big West (1997, 1999, 2000), Western Athletic (2003, 2005, 2006, 2007), and the six in the MW.
  • NCAA Championship Appearances: The Broncos have competed in 20 NCAA tournaments all-time, including the last two in 2023 and 2024.
