Boise State Rally Comes Up Short at Utah State

LOGAN, Utah — Boise State men's tennis – ranked 56th nationally – rallied three times to tie the score Saturday afternoon but ultimately fell short 4-3 at No. 71 Utah State in a Mountain West match at Logan, Utah.
This was the second meeting of the year following Boise State's 4-3 victory over Utah State in the Boise State Spring Fling tournament title match on March 23. Today's loss moved the Broncos to 13-10 overall and 1-1 in conference, while USU moved to 15-4 and 2-1.
The Aggies took a one-point advantage into singles after winning the doubles point 2-0. Jan Lucca Marquardt tied the score at 1-1 with a two-set victory on court four, 6-3, 6-4.
After USU regained the lead at 2-1, James Van Herzeele evened the score by winning 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in three sets after rallying from a set down at No. 3 singles.
Down 3-2, Boise State came back for the third time to tie the score when Idriss Haddouch dispatched Philip Rein in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 on court six.
The decisive match came on court five, where the Aggies' Mohammad Alkotop defeated John Chin in two sets, 6-3, 6-1.
