Boise State Takes On New Mexico in Mountain West Championship

No. 3-seeded Boise State men's tennis will play No. 6 New Mexico in the quarterfinal round of the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championship. The match will take place on April 22 at 6 p.m. MT in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The winner of No. 3 Boise State vs. No. 6 New Mexico will face the winner of No. 2 San Diego State vs. No. 7 Air Force in the semifinal on April 23 at 6 p.m. MT.

SCOUTING THE LOBOS
New Mexico closed out conference play with a 2-5 record, picking up wins against Air Force and Nevada. The Lobos head into the tournament at 8-15 overall, with just three of those victories coming away from home. Boise State edged New Mexico 4-3 in their most recent meeting on March 29. The Broncos hold a 26-15 advantage in the all-time series and are 5-2 against the Lobos in conference tournament play.
 
SWEEPS
Boise State has recorded ten sweeps this season, its highest total since 2012 when they tallied 11.
 
RANKED WINS
Boise State is tied for first in the MW with three ranked wins with San Diego State. Air Force, Grand Canyon, Utah State and UNLV also have two; while Nevada and New Mexico are still seeking their first ranked win of the season.

Stewart Aronson and Carson Baker lead the Broncos this season with a team-high four match-clinching wins. Adam Duda, Julius Seifert and Filip Soderqvist each have two, while Avery Tallakson has added one.

Idriss Haddouch is two wins shy of reaching 100 combined singles and doubles victories at Boise State, the most on the roster.

Soderqvist has the longest active singles winning streak on the team at four matches.
 
RECORD BOOK MOVEMENT
Taiyo Kurata and Julius Seifert have recorded 22 career wins as a pair, and one more victory would move them into 16th place in program history. The duo also has 19 dual-match wins, another would place them 13th all-time. Meanwhile, Baker and Tallakson are one win away from reaching 22 victories this season, which would place them 18th in career program history and 10th in season program history.
 
MW PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tallakson was named Mountain West Player of the Week on March 18, marking the first of his career and the first for Boise State since March 5, 2025.
 
MW FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Soderqvist was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week on Feb. 18, March 11 and April 15. He now owns three weekly honors this season, the most freshman honors in a single season since 2022.
 
ALL-MW RETURNER
Baker earned All-Mountain West distinctions in singles and doubles last season, marking the sole active Bronco to hold such honors on the 2026 roster.
 
THE ROSTER
Boise State's roster consists of seven returners (Baker, Duda, Idriss Haddouch, Kurata, Seifert, Michael Seversen and Lukas Velik), one transfer from Clemson (Aronson), another transfer from New Mexico (Talllakson) and one freshman (Soderqvist).

REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONSHIPS
Boise State has won five regular season conference titles all-time. The Broncos' first year as a member of a conference that played a regular season round robin was 2009 when they were members of the Western Athletic Conference. They went on to win that first WAC title and have since followed with three in the MW (2012, 2014, 2024 and 2025).
 
CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIPS
Since joining the conference for the 2012 campaign, the Broncos have won six MW tournament championships (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2023, 2024). Boise State has won 18 conference tournament titles overall in the program's history spanning four conferences: Big Sky (1974, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996), Big West (1997, 1999, 2000), Western Athletic (2003, 2005, 2006, 2007), and the six in the MW (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2023, 2024).
 
NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS APPEARANCES
The Broncos have competed in 21 NCAA tournaments all-time, including the last three in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
