BOISE, Idaho (1/25/19) – The Boise State men's tennis team opened its season with a 7-0 win over visiting Montana State at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center, Friday.

The Broncos defeated the Bobcats (0-2) for the 22nd-consecutive time and provided Kristian Widen a victory in his collegiate-head coaching debut.

"I am super proud of this group," Widen said. "They did exactly what we asked them to  to; compete, play hard at every position, support each other and make it a clean match that was all about the tennis."

Widen added, "Montana State is well-coached, but I felt like our guys were very resilient when they faced adversity. It is a sense of relief to win your first match as a head coach and this is a great start for us to build on as we go forward this season."

The Blue and Orange's doubles came out swinging with the No. 2 team of Max Blancaneaux and Simon Arca Costas defeating the Bobcats' Creel Smith and Joaquin Espinoza 6-1.

Boise State's top pairing of Jack Heslin and Luka Soskic came back from a game down to defeat Drew Brown and Alexander Flink 6-4 and clinch the doubles point. At No. 3, Stefan Lalovic and Simon Stenlund pulled out a 6-3 win over Montana State's Mateus Ceolin and Marcos Zelver to give the Broncos a clean sweep.

Arca Costas extended Boise State's advantage to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Ceolin at No. 6 singles. Moments later, Wyatt DeMulling put the finishing touch on a 6-0, 6-4 win against Espinoza at No. 4. DeMulling broke Espinoza's serve at 4-4 and held serve to close the match.

Blancaneaux clinched the match at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Christian Damgaard Qvist. Sokic added a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles and Lalovic and Heslin posted three-set wins at No. 5 and No. 1, respectively to close out the match.
