COLFAX, Wash. –
The Boise State men's and women's cross country teams solidified their spots at the NCAA National Championships with top-five performances, Friday at the NCAA West Regional.

The women entered the day ranked 13th nationally and finished third with 86 points behind No. 2 Stanford (39 points) and No. 4 Washington (49 points). All-five scoring Broncos earned All-West Region honors on the 6k course, led by a seventh-place finish from sophomore Yukino Parle (20:05.8).

Joining Parle on the awards carpet were fellow sophomores Maxine Paholek (16th, 20:21.7), Olivia Johnson (17th. 20:23.2), Lara Hamilton (21st, 20:32.6) and senior Clare O'Brien (25th, 20:35.7).

"We had a 30-second spread against two of the top-10 teams in the country and we went punch for punch," Boise State Head Coach Corey Ihmels said. "We are going to be a dangerous team next week. We have back-to-back sixth-place finishes at nationals and I think this team is just as good."

On the men's side, the No. 27 Broncos placed fifth with 133 points, led by senior Miler Haller's fourth-place effort in a time of 29:55.0 on the 10k course. Juniors Ahmed Muhumed (30:03.2) and Elijah Armstrong (30:04.7) received All-West Region accolades by coming across the line in 17th and 19th place, respectively. Senior Logan Rees (41st, 30:44.4) and junior Jonathan Shields (52nd, 30:59.7).

Boise State finished behind No. 11 Portland (65 points), No. 4 Stanford (78 points), No. 6 Oregon (90 points) and No. 14 Washington (115 points).

"We went out a little more aggressive than I would have liked, but that is a savvy group up front with Miler, Ahmed and Elijah," Ihmels said. "It was really satisfying to see Miler today in his senior year. He is from the Pacific Northwest and his dad was here. He has meant so much to our program. It was fitting he led the way today."

The Broncos will learn official word on their at-large berths, Saturday at 3 p.m. when the NCAA announces the complete field for its national championships taking place in Terre Haute, Ind., Saturday, Nov. 23.
