WHAT IS HAPPENING
- Boise State's men's tennis team is in Eagle, Idaho, this weekend for a four-match homestand against Montana State, Seattle, Idaho State and Whitman.
- Since the 2008-09 season the Broncos as a program are 8-0 vs Montana State, 6-0 vs Idaho State and 3-0 vs Whitman.
- For the first time ever, Boise State's men's and women's teams will be playing simultaneously at Eagle Tennis Club against Seattle U at 6 p.m. on Friday and Idaho State at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
- Last weekend (Sat., Jan 18th) the Broncos traveled down to Waco, Texas, and took on a top-five team the No. 5 Baylor Bears.
- In Singles, senior Wyatt DeMulling faced 19th-ranked Sven Lah taking him to three sets before falling. Kyryll Kryvchun took on 59th-ranked Matias Soto, falling in two 6-3, 6-1.
- Boise State's 50th-ranked doubles tandem of Blake Bayldon and Simon Arca Costas fell 6-3 to the 20th-ranked team from Baylor, Lah and Constantin Frantzen. The Boise State duo is now 6-1 overall.Â
- Making their debut for the blue and orange, Mark Papadopoulos and Michael Bott took on Baylor's 25th-ranked doubles duo of Matias Soto and Ryan Dickerson falling 6-3.
- Kyryll Kryvchun sits with the best record on the team at 14-5, last week he played at position number one for the Broncos.
- Senior, Wyatt DeMulling enters this weekend's contest with an 8-4 overall record.
- Other notables, Simon Arca Costas 7-6 and Blake Bayldon 8-6.
- The Broncos number one position will be held by the 50th-ranked duo of Bayldon and Arca Costas, they come into these weekend's matches with a 6-1 overall record.
- The rest of Boise State's doubles lineup has some experimenting to do to find the right match-ups and consistency.
COACH WIDEN
- Kristian Widen is in his second year as head coach of his alma mater. The former Bronco tennis player and 1996 Boise State graduate was named head men's tennis coach on May 17, 2018.
- He begins his second season with an 11-11 overall record.
- He has been a part of seven conference championships at Boise State, three as a player and four as an assistant.
- Widen has more than 20 years of coaching experience at various levels, including time previously spent on staff at Boise State with both the men's and women's programs.
