Broncos Drop Conference Opener to Aztecs

BOISE, Idaho – San Diego State handed the Broncos a tough home loss Sunday afternoon in the conference opener by a 4-3 score. Boise State was led by Kyryll Kryvchun, Wyatt DeMulling and Blake Bayldon who all won singles matches. The defeat moved Boise State to 6-4 overall on the year.
The Blue and Orange dropped the doubles point 2-0, then came up short in singles on courts six, three and five as the Aztecs secured the win.
Boise State's top tandem and the 56th-ranked doubles team of Blake Bayldon and Simon Arca Costas were up 5-2 when their match was abandoned following the clinching of the doubles point by SDSU. Â
In singles, Kryvchun earned his team-high 22nd victory of the season as he defeated Fabian Roensdorf 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 1 position.
DeMulling, a senior, rallied from a set down to take his match to three sets before claiming a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory.
Finishing off the afternoon for Boise State was Bayldon who after losing the first set 4-6, rallied back to win his match by taking the second set 7-6 and a third set in a 10-point tiebreaker 1-0 (11-9) against Aaro Pollanen.
The Broncos will look to bounce back next Saturday when they host Idaho at the Boas Tennis Center.
