SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Boise State men's cross county team garnered a sixth-place finish, while the women took eighth at the NCAA West Regionals, Friday.
"We need to get better," said head coach Corey Ihmels. "We had a few bright spots, Dario [De Caro] ran well on the men's side. Ahmed [Ibrahim] ran well. Logan [Rees] ran well."
The men were paced by 2021 Mountain West Champion Dario De Caro. De Caro began the 10k steady, taking off around the 2.5-mile mark to improve his position from 19th place to eighth (29:53.7).
"Dario battled down the homestretch," Ihmels said. "That was the highlight of the day."
Freshman Ahmed Ibrahim and senior Logan Rees followed closely behind De Caro, placing 15th (30:05.5) and 18th (30:11.6), respectively.
Rounding out the men's scoring five was freshman Matty Mackay. Mackay took 33rd with a time of 30:30.7.
On the women's side, senior Olivia Johnson was the first member of the Blue and Orange to cross the finish line in the 6k. Johnson finished in a time of 20:33.9, notching a 26th-place finish.
Also scoring for the Bronco women were junior Tyler Beling (38th-place finish), senior Yukino Parle (42), sophomore Ines Borba (47) and freshman Yasmin Marghini (61).
De Caro, Ibrahim and Rees earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors for finishing in the top 25.
With every regional competition complete, the Broncos await official word on the individuals and teams who have earned at-large berths for the NCAA National Championships. That announcement will come Saturday at 3 p.m. MT on NCAA.com.
NCAA Nationals are scheduled for Nov. 20 in Tallahassee, Fla.
