Boise State Sweeps Doubleheader Racing Past Cal Poly and Eastern Washington

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State men's tennis dominated their doubleheader on Saturday at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center, defeating Cal Poly 6-1 and Eastern Washington 7-0 to improve to 5-3 overall. Â

It was an impressive day for the Blue and Orange, who split the two team doubles points but did not drop a singles match during the doubleheader, winning all 12 contests, with eight coming in straight sets.

Boise State opened the day rallying from a point down to defeat Cal Poly 6-1. The Mustangs edged the Broncos 2-1 for the doubles point by winning a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles.

The Blue and Orange then rallied in singles play. Senior Sam Sippel led the charge with an easy straight-set 6-3, 6-2 victory on court one to tie the team score up 1-1. Sippel's win would prove to be the first of six consecutive victories for the Broncos as they rolled in singles.

John Chin was the next off the court at No. 6 singles where he also won in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. Jip van Assendelft followed him on court two with a three-set 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win to move the Broncos within one point of clinching the team victory over the Mustangs.

Jett Middleton recorded the match-winning point with his two-set 7-6(0), 6-3 victory at the fifth singles position.

The scoring was wrapped up with two three-set victories by Jan Lucca Marquardt and James Van Herzeele, respectively.

The Broncos opened the Eastern Washington match by winning the doubles 2-1 over the Eagles. Middleton and Van Herzeele won No. 3 doubles 6-2. Then, after EWU had tied it at 1-1, Sippel and van Assendelft clinched the team point at 2-1 with a 7-5 victory on court one.

Singles began with the Broncos winning all six first sets. Idriss Haddouch led the team by recording a dominating victory on court five in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

Van Herzeele and Marquardt followed with two sets wins on courts two and one, respectively. Marquardt's 6-2, 6-3 win clinched the team victory for Boise State.

Liam Toroman, Teague Burger, and Caden Moortgat concluded the team scoring, winning the last three singles matches to make the final score 7-0.Â
