Broncos Win a Pair of Matches at Spring Fling

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State men's tennis won a pair of matches on the opening day of the Spring Fling tournament at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center in Boise, collecting a 6-1 victory over Montana State, then followed with a 4-3 win over Kennesaw State. The pair of wins improved the 38th-ranked Broncos to 11-4 overall.

The Broncos opened the match with doubles victories on court one by 69th-ranked Carson Baker and Jett Middleton 6-0 at the No. 1 position, followed by Taiyo Kurata and Julius Seifert on court two by a 6-2 score.
 
Up one in the team score, Boise State opened singles with a win at No. 3 by James Van Herzeele 6-3, 6-0. John Chin followed with a quick victory on court five 6-1, 6-3.
 
Kurata recorded the match-clinching singles victory in straight sets, winning at No. 6 singles 6-3, 6-4.
 
Boise State ended up winning the first five singles contests in straight sets as Idriss Haddouch (6-4, 6-4) won on court four, while Carson Baker at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2, wrapped up the Broncos' scoring to put the Broncos up 6-0 before eventually taking the contest by a 6-1 score.

 

Kennesaw State Recap

Boise State claimed the team doubles point 2-0 over the Owls, with Baker and Middleton winning 6-2 on court one. Chin and Van Herzeele clinched the team point with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
 
The Broncos secured the team victory by winning three straight singles matches to go up 4-0 over Kennesaw State. Idriss Haddouch was the first to put away his opponent, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Van Herzeele was not far behind, winning 6-3, 6-2 on court four to put Boise State up 3-0.
 
Chin brought the match home when he defeated KSU's Sam Baldwin in straight sets 7-5, 6-2 to make it 4-0 Broncos.
 
The night closed with Kennesaw State winning the final three singles matches, to make the final team score 4-3 in favor of Boise State.

Notables

James Van Herzeele's two singles victories moved him to 72 career wins, tying him for 20th all-time at Boise State.

Boise State will wrap up the Spring Fling tournament Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m. (Mountain) versus Montana State.
