Soskic Leads Broncos Past Pacific 4-3

Luka Soskic won two tiebreakers to clinch the victory for Boise State against the Tigers.

BOISE, Idaho - Luka Soskic went through two tiebreakers to win his No. 2 singles match and hand Boise State a 4-3 victory over the Pacific Tigers Wednesday afternoon at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center in Boise. After Pacific had rallied from 3-1 down to tie the match at 3-3, it came down to Soskic's match for the decisive point. 

The sophomore transfer faced Pacific's Philip Hjorth on court two where they went to two tiebreakers. The first set saw Soskic dominate the tiebreak 7-1. During the second set he had to rally to force the tiebreaker, then rallied a second time from 2-0 down in the tiebreaker to win 7-4. Soskic's 7-6(1), 7-6(4) victory clinched the match for Boise State at 4-3 as the Broncos improved to 8-3 on the year.

Boise State opened the match by claiming the team doubles point 2-0 with wins on courts two and three. Simon Stenlund and Soskic notched the first win 6-2 at No. 3 doubles over UOP's Josef Southcombe and John Horoz Garner. The Boise State duo is now 3-1 this spring.

The second doubles victory came from Jack Heslin and Simon Arca Costas on court two where they put away Pacific's Hjorth and Ross Watson 6-2. Heslin and Arca Costas are now 3-2 in duals. 

The third match saw Wyatt DeMulling and Stefan Lalovic leading at No. 1 singles when the match was abandoned with the clinching of the team point. 

After Pacific had tied the match up at 1-1 with a singles win on court one, Boise State rolled off two wins within minutes of each other. The first came from Lalovic who dominated Southcombe in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. The sophomore is now 5-1 in team duals and 8-2 overall on the year.

The second singles victory came from Wyatt DeMulling on court five where he downed Johnathan Lieu in straight sets as well by the score of 6-1, 6-3. The win gave Boise State a 3-1 cushion with three matches to go, it also improved DeMulling to 16-8 on the year and 7-1 in duals.

The Tigers rallied claiming wins at No. 4 and 3 singles, respectively,  to tie the score up at 3-3, setting up Soskic's decisive win to hand the Broncos victory.
