Broncos Place Third at Diablos College Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. – Boise State men's tennis – ranked 29th nationally – faced a pair of ranked opponents on Saturday, earning a split on the final day of the Diablos College Invitational at the Kiwanis Tennis Center in Tempe, Arizona.
 
The Broncos opened the day falling 4-1 to No. 41 Arizona State, then regrouped in the afternoon to defeat 49th-ranked Washington 4-2 in the third-place match. With the split, Boise State improved to 9-4 overall.

 

Arizona State Recap

Boise State opened the match by winning the doubles point 2-1 Friday night. The Broncos knocked off two ranked doubles teams for ASU.
 
The first doubles win was at court one, where Carson Baker and Jett Middleton defeated 56th-ranked Bor Artnak and Matic Dimic 6-2 to tie the doubles score at 1-1. The clinching point was at No. 2 doubles, where Julius Seifert and Taiyo Kurata beat 62nd-ranked Tanner Povey and Daniel Phillips 6-2.
 
Singles were played Saturday morning, where the 41st-ranked Sun Devils rallied for the victory by claiming four-straight victories.

 

Washington Recap

The Broncos regrouped in the third-place match versus the Washington Huskies Saturday afternoon. Boise State opened the contest by dropping the team doubles point 2-0.
 
John Chin tied the score at 1-1 when he rolled past his opponent on court five in singles by a 6-3, 6-2 score.
 
Down 2-1, the Blue and Orange rallied again, this time claiming three straight singles matches to clinch the team victory. It began with Lukas Velik's 6-3, 7-5 win on court three. He was followed by James Van Herzeele, who won at No. 4 singles 6-1, 7-6(1) to put the Broncos up 3-2.
 
The match clincher came from Idriss Haddouch, who rallied from a set down to win 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 on court six.  

What's Next

Boise State will be off until March 15, when it hosts the Boise State Spring Fling tournament at the Appleton Tennis Center.
